Panel Looks to Curb Violence in the Workplace Patch Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow, NY --

Sleepy Hollow officials are asking village workers to size up their workplaces with an eye to making them safe and violence-free.

A committee, comprising someone from each village department, has been asked to assess potential risks and identify ways to mitigate them. The village board created the 15-member committee at the latest Board meeting.

Its members are Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio, Clerk Paul McCarthy, Police Chief Greg Camp, Lt. Frank Hrotko, Sgt. Felix Corona, Building Inspector Sean McCarthy, Rec Director Robin Pell, Court Clerk Larry Cassidy, DPW General Foreman Richard Gross, John Arena, Douglas DiCairano, Christopher Scelza, Angela Martello, Ambulance Corps Capt. Edgar Brennan and Trustee Jennifer Lobato-Church.

Giaccio explained that creating this committee was a requirement from the Village's insurance. The group will meet annually for updated training and to identify risks, also meeting as necessary if incidents arise.

Even before such a committee, Giaccio said "we're pretty proactive here." There are safety committees in place and when complaints came up in the past they were quickly looked into. There's never been a case of this sort in his tenure, Giaccio said, only a few allegedly unfounded allegations.

"Allegations we investigated we found to be unfounded," Giaccio said. "But if something comes up, we would follow up on it."
