Michael H. Cassidy Jr., 24, of 33 Cranberry Run, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 6:08 a.m. on April 20 and charged with felony domestic assault on a person older than 60, domestic vandalism and domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone.
According to police, they received a report of Cassidy committing a domestic assault at a Cranberry Run home at about 5 a.m. The victims told police that Cassidy had since left with a 39-year-old South Kingstown man in a car.
Police said that based on interviews with the victims, Cassidy had shown up at the home very intoxicated at about 4:30 a.m. The victims told police that Cassidy had became enraged when he was asked to start paying $100 a week in rent.
According to police, all of the telephones at the home except one were destroyed, in an attempt by Cassidy to prevent the victims from calling 911. Police also noted that several items in the home were destroyed, and a 66-year-old man thought his ribs might be broken where Cassidy had struck him.
Police said that the victims were able to identify the man with Cassidy, and Cassidy was found at that man’s apartment at about 6:08 a.m. Police said Cassidy was arrested without incident.
According to police, the 39-year-old man provided them with a statement that corroborated the victim’s statements.
Police said Cassidy was processed at headquarters and then released at about 1 p.m.
According to online records, Cassidy has two previous arrests:
· In December 2011, Cassidy pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police charge of driving while intoxicated. He was ordered to pay a fine and assessments, to surrender his license for three months, and to complete 20 hours of community service and DWI school.
· In December 2010, Cassidy pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay court costs and the case was transferred to traffic court.
A felony screening hearing is scheduled for June 5.
